I’m trying to buy a fan. Two in fact.
Very special fans that are not available here.
So far I’ve ‘phoned 5 countries and spent Rs2,500/- on call costs which says either I’m totally bonkers or I REALLY want this product.
Now, you would have thought that the UK, which has an alleged reputation for strong sales processes, speedy service and good customer care would be my salvation.
Sadly that’s not the case. In fact, I’ve become so frustrated that I’m now a Man with a Mission. I’ve got the bit between my teeth and will do whatever it takes to highlight the inefficiencies of this particular UK company who appears to be doing everything in its power to deny me a purchase.
All I want is not to pay VAT. Which, as an overseas resident, I am legally entitled to claim. Yet, this international company with a world renowned reputation for innovation hasn’t a clue because apparently, no-one has asked this question before.
So they’re all in a tizzy and running round like headless chickens to help me out.
Actually, they’re not.
They don’t apparently give a rat’s backside about me buying their products or enhancing their reputation by sending gushing letters of praise to websites where people talk about these things. They don’t care about the front page picture in our National Press when this revolutionary product arrives here.
So much for their valuing free publicity of the highest order. And selling Rs60,000/- of product.
So take heart, friends.
If you think that poor customer service is a staple of our life and that everything is better in the UK you are sadly mistaken.
Perhaps Dyson could learn something from our companies.
That would be a turn-up for the books wouldn’t it?
